Trip Description
There is nothing quite as extraordinary as exploring the PEARL-OF-AFRICA on two wheels. It might be a small country but it’s full of surprises, and the landscapes are spectacular. The irresistibly cool climate, nature, and hospitality make everything even brighter. The 12-day western loop is an interesting one for those that love to combine watching wildlife with beautiful mountain landscapes. Explore Fort Portal and the crater lakes, Queen Elizabeth National Park and the tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, Lake Mburo National Park, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – home to half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas.

DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1: WELCOME TO THE PEARL
Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport, ready to take you to your lodging where you will spend your night. Depending on your arrival time, there are lots of exciting activities to do in Kampala/Entebbe, like visiting the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, Reptile Village, or even a Kampala city tour.

DAY 2: TRANSFER TO LAKE MBURO NATIONAL
After a filling breakfast, all roads will lead to Uganda’s smallest park which is known for Zebras – Lake Mburo National Park. This route offers you a great opportunity to have a stopover at the Equator, which not only serves as a great spot for photos but an opportunity for a quick stretch. After some afternoon refreshments and check-ins, we explore this wild land on two wheels. The afternoon ride on the borders of the park while viewing some of the fascinating wildlife like zebras, Ugandan kobs, and hard-to-miss warthogs is an experience like no other.

DAY 3: ANOTHER RIDE OUTSIDE THE PARK
A longer ride on the borders of the park is a guarantee of seeing a more spectacular range of wildlife. After this exhilarating adventure, you get some chill in the afternoon – reading a book perhaps or getting lost in the wonders of nature, as you gear up for yet another exciting activity – a night game safari to see more wildlife. The main focus of the night game safari is to see the nocturnals; leopards, hyenas, bush babies, and many more.

DAY 4: TRANSFER TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
About 185km from Lake Mburo lies Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s largest national parks with a high biodiversity range. You should get there in time for lunch. Thereafter, get on the afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel that connects Lake Edward and George. This channel attracts a wide range of aquatic animals predominantly hippos and Nile Crocodiles.

DAY 5: GAME DRIVE AND CHIMP TREKKING
The earliest bird catches the worm, and this is definitive of the morning game drive. Offering you great insights into the lives of our “morning” wild counterparts; lions, buffaloes, hippos, elephants, waterbucks, warthogs and so much more. This should cover the rest of the morning and after a bit of chill time, we would be set for the Chimp Trekking. Well scientists say that chimps are humanity’s closest living relatives, and so perhaps this experience will give you a great insight into how true this is.

DAY 6: RIDE TO ISHASHA
They say it is not a complete African experience without a safari. But can you imagine seeing some of the greatest animals that walk our planet in the comfort of two wheels? First thing in the morning, we ride a distance of 75km to the Ishasha sector, known for the tree-climbing lions. Besides the lions, Queen Elizabeth has a wide range of other animals, fascinating to watch as we ride through the national park; Elephants, warthogs, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, and buffalos. Throughout this experience, our support van will be there with you each step of the way.

DAY 7: GAME DRIVE TO FIND TREE-CLIMBING LIONS
If there is anything that shouldn’t miss on your must-see and to-do list in Uganda, that is the tree-climbing lions. Ishasha sector in Queen Elizabeth is famously known for its mystifying populations of tree-climbing lions. A game drive to see the “King of the jungle” in a rare sight will make for a memorable experience.

DAY 8: RIDE TO BWINDI NATIONAL PARK
From the lush African savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park to the Impenetrable Forest of Bwindi, this 60km cycling adventure is one of a kind, the hills even make for a more challenging and rewarding experience. From undulating hills to tea plantations, scenic views, insights into the lives of the locals, and more excitingly our final destination Buhoma, is a gorilla tracking area, giving you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get close to these gentle giants.

DAY 9: RIDE TO RUHIJA
This day will be dedicated to exploring the impenetrable forest, as we ride through the forest, on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Fused with a bit of climbing, this ride covers a distance of about 45km but the views are captivating, with several primate species, a wide range of tree and plant species, and a long list of bird species. Bwindi Impenetrable is home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas, and our destination Ruhija is also another great tracking point for the endangered species.

DAY 10: REST DAY (OPTIONAL GORILLA TRACKING)
You have already done a lot of good for your body by cycling the past couple of days, now let it rest and recover. This day off allows you time to connect with the wilderness or read a book. However, some activities can be arranged; gorilla tracking, community visits, and many more.

DAY 11: TRANSFER BACK TO KAMPALA
Our journey back to Kampala, through Kasese, will have you cross the equator. This route leads to Fort Portal, dubbed the “Tourism City of Uganda”. Lying on the edge of Uganda’s equatorial rainforest, this area code is an enchanting land full of crater lakes, grassland, tea plantations, forests, and mountain ranges. There is no better way to wrap up the experience than these jaw-dropping scenic views.

DAY 12: KAMPALA CITY TOUR AND DEPARTURE
This trip will culminate in exploring Uganda’s Capital. A tour around Kampala will have you explore some of the country’s religious and historic sites, crafts markets for souvenirs back home, and insight into the city dwellers’ livelihoods. After which, you will be transferred to the hotel to prepare for departure depending on your flight schedule.
